The key message in the song is in the lyrics of the chorus: “I’m obsessed with lying to myself and chasing after sunsets with no retreat” Although it is spoken in first person, I am speaking for the entire generation of youth who is so caught up in which filter to choose. Whether it be online in their photos, or a metaphorical filter that they put on every morning to mask a deeper struggle inside. We chase relentlessly and blindly after beauty that captivates just for a moment, yet fleets in just the blink of an eye, just like a sunset. I hope that the message of this song will help those who hear it realize that there is so much more than the surface-level aesthetic filters that we put on everyday, and that eventually they will all fade and what will matter is the real, raw, parts of ourselves that we try so hard to conceal.
