The song's about a girl who cannot forget her past lover, whom she associated with her favorite color, blue. From the beginning until the middle of the song, it seems that she's describing her happy and colorful experience and feelings toward her ex-lover. However, the bridge and the fading chorus of the song reveal that the reason why everything's still colorful in her mind is that she's only imagining and recalling the past love she had as imagination and daydreaming are viewed as "colorful" where we can control what we want to happen. The song's bridge shows that she knows they have already ended their love, but she denies that it has faded (lost its beam or its radiance). Ultimately, she admitted that the man is still her favorite shade of blue in the last part of the song, with another association of "blue" that is also synonymous with the word "sadness", which implies that she is her favorite shade of her life amidst the heartbreak.
